While attending the American College of the Building Arts I've had the unique opportunity to work with some incredible people and companies. My education and professional experience wouldn't be as complete without their guidance and help. A detailed synopsis of each internship can be found in the 2007-10 Portfolio.
John Canning Studios - A Connecticut-based company that gave me an opprtunity to help stabilize and repair an ornamental ceiling of a McKim Mead and White building at the University of Virginia.
Foster Reeve and Associates - My second internship with this Brooklyn-based ornamental company gave me my first real taste of ornamental and decorative plaster work. While in New York, I cast and installed a huge plaster cornice in a Long Island mansion.
Meadors Construction - My first internship was with this Charleston company, restoring and consolidating the plaster flatwork of a historic property in downtown Charleston under the direction of master mason and plasterer, Jens Finck. I continued to work with Meadors through my time at the college
Jeff Orton and Thomas Wibbeke - Mr. Orton is a reknown plasterer in England and was gracious enough to spend eight weeks with us at the college. His passion and committment to quality have provided an indelible mark on my approach to plaster. Mr. Wibbeke is a plaster for a Paderborn, Germany company, Ochsenfarth Preservation, who also spent eight weeks with us at the college. Thomas presented unique plaster and mineral-based painting techniques that have been very benefitial over the years.
David Flaharty - Mr. Flaharty is a well-known sculptor and plasterer just outside of Philadelphia who came down to Charleston for a week, but left a lifetime's worth of knowledge and insight to ornamental plaster, specifically plaster medallions. Under his direction we installed a beautiful medallion in a historic Charleston home. He has been a tremendous help and source of inspiration since then.
